Serrans Celebrate Patron Feast Day

Serra International District 130-B Nigeria on Sunday, July 4, 2021 celebrated the Saint Junipero Serra Feast Day with lots of fanfare.

Serra Club of Maryland joined other clubs and clubs (in-formation) in the district celebration, which took place at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in the Ladipo area of Lagos.

The celebration started with the Holy Mass celebrated by the Parish Priest and first Serra Club Chaplain in Nigeria, Very Rev Msgr. Patrick Obayomi.

During the three parish Masses on that day, parishioners were sensitized on the planned establishment of a Serra Club in the area and encouraged to join.

Thereafter, the celebration moved to the church hall where members of the various clubs converged in excitement and fanfare.

In the hall, there was a talk on the concept of Serra Movement by the District Governor-Elect, Serran Pius Tanimojo.

There was also a quiz competition amongst the clubs, which was won by Serra Club of Ogba (in-formation), while Serra Club of Ketu was the runner-up.

Trophies and cash prizes of ten thousand naira (N10,000) and five thousand naira (5,000) respectively were presented to the winning clubs and their representatives in the competition.

In the buildup to the celebration, Serra Club of Maryland had organised a 9-day Novena to St Junipero Serra from June 22 – 30 and had a thanksgiving in the Holy Mass on July 1, which is the actual Feast Day.
